Here's the result of my playing with chiaroscuro. I was stuck for a composition idea so started with an abstract using curves...just to get started. It got cropped and morphed into this odd little landscape, which I sort of like. The mountains are patchwork using hand dyed fabrics and I've added a few stars twinkling with swarowski crystals.
As suggested, I added some shadowing to the mountains with tulle....I didn't get a clear photo, but you can see the effect (which I think is an improvement)

Love it. It makes me think of the phrase, "different as night and day." It's as if we're seeing night on top and day on the bottom. I really like the irregular shape and the patchwork sky - the bottom reads like green mountains with patchwork sky to me.
This piece gives me the feeling of night expanding to cover the land. Very nice mixture of darks in the sky and like the contrast of dark and light mountains. Love the irregular shape.
Cynthia, this is a very interesting piece. There is a lot of contrast between the black and the other colors, but it might be more effective if there were some shadows. As always your quilting is superb! Nice flow too!
beautiful quilting. I feel the evening breezes blowing in the night clouds. Love it!

Cynthia... your quilting is fabulous!!
I love the dark sky but am totally confused by the 'daylight' landscape below the dark starry night...maybe some shadows, as previously stated...I am not sure because...as it goes with the viewer as opposed to the artist, I am not sure of what you are seeing...so...
Great to have you back!
Fabulous movement in this piece. It has a very mystical and mysterious feel to it. The irregular shape adds to the movement although I was first confused because of the background color it is photographed against. But then I saw what I was supposed to see.
Reminds me of a setting sun and rising moon. Where the sunset sparkles on the snow caped mountains. That being said - the moon is higher in the sky than I would think. I love the the stars.
Hi Cynthia,
I am drooling over the quilting! Love the pieced mountains and clouds.

Interesting sky and shape. Crystals are a nice touch. Very nice quilting.
