Sorry for the wonky setting! I took this photo in the Dora canal and changed the color with photo editing software. The thin aqua border around the photos is chiffon and the background fabric I bought on the same day I took the picture by coincidence. The large aqua border is chiffon overlaid over ugly free fabric picked up at a guild meeting.

I really like the inner background (stripy)fabric...it is so appropriate for the lovely images. So peaceful. A little spark is maybe needed as in a tiny (1/8 - 1/4") little inner border between the stripy bg and the lighter border? Maybe a touch of the darker blue binding, or maybe even white to set off the whole composition.

This has a very watery look to it. Nice job on choice of fabrics and quilting. IMO it needs more contrast to make it pop, it is too much the same value. Working monochromatically is difficult.

I agree with Janice. This needs another color or more value contrast for some oomph. What if the inner border was black or even chartreuse green?
I really like the composition using the different sizes of the same photo.
I love the colors, very cool and serene, but I agree with the others. Have you tried a very narrow (perhaps a braid or cord) in a contrasting color as a zinger to make the subjects pop?

Hi Brenda - The photo you used is really beautiful. I like the way you colored it and reproduced it in the different sizes. The finished piece sort of looks like a scrapbook page to me - which seems appropriate for a piece that grew from a special trip. I too feel that a touch of another color might be good - I like Gerrie's idea of a bit of chartreuse.
Hi Brenda, This is really lovely...though I wish the Heron was more white and there was a little bright pop of yellow or green in the foliage. The style of this is neat and organized...it might be fun to throw in something unpredicable or edgy into the composition or color. Even a contrasting binding or a non-square shape or non symetrical border or a dimensional element added like a flower or leaf.
It's good to see your work...looking forward to seeing lots more! Keep it up!

Love the piece, but agree it's too much blue. Perhaps some leaves on a branch coming in from above and below to frame it more and add some other colors?
